My Favorite Song

I highlighted the importance of music’s effect on the soul previously. The song that I hold dear to my heart right now is Thy Will by Hillary Scott. For those of us in difficult seasons of life, this song is especially for your ears to hear. Let’s dissect the lyrics and how they are applicable to our lives. The opening sequence begins with this:

I’m so confused

I know I heard you loud and clear

So, I followed through

Somehow I ended up here

I don’t wanna think

I may never understand

That my broken heart is a part of your plan

When I try to pray

All I’ve got is hurt and these four words

Thy will be done

We all face burdens that are out of our control. Bad things happen when you live in a sinful world. Some of us face death of loved ones, sickness, infidelity in marriage, addictions, financial troubles, job loss, and other things that we may feel like we did nothing to deserve. This is why Hillary Scott starts the song by saying I’m so confused by the turmoil in life. She has remained faithful and obeyed God and still ended up in a tough spot. Scott still realizes her broken heart is still temporary and that the Lord’s will be done. The verses of this sequence provide reassurance that the Lord is faithful in the end. It reminds me of powerful verses in the Bible such as:

Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Here’s the next sequence I want to focus on:

I know you see me

I know you hear me, Lord

Your plans are for me

Goodness you have in store

I know you hear me

I know you see me, Lord

Your plans are for me

Good news you have in store

So, thy will be done

Thy will be done

Thy will be done

Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is

Here we have more reassurance of the Lord’s faithfulness. There is recognition of His Almighty power to hear our cries for help and answer them in due time. What’s also very interesting is the last verse where Hillary Scott describes her faith like that of a child. Here we see a theme all throughout the Bible how, as born again Christians, we are children of God. Our faith is that of children. With that in mind, there is a sense of dependency in contrast to the cynicism of adulthood. We should still mature our faith over time, but it still starts out like that of a child. Here are more relevant verses from the Bible that this sequence compares to:

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Matthew 18:2-4 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,  And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Listen to this wonderful song and I hope it has the same effect on you as it has on me. Share it with friends and family. Have a blessed day.

Praying for all those in difficult seasons of life. Surrender it all, yield your heart, feel all that arises within you for you can bear it all with Christ in you, who is GREATER than anything in the world, trust, wait on the Lord until it shifts into His peace, let His love pour into your heart by the Holy Spirit, let His joy replace your mourning! He is Faithful and True and he is closest to the broken hearted and is the healer, restorer, renewer, and regenerator of our hearts into His Heart, the One our soul loves, the Beloved! God bless all who are hurting, in pain, wounded, betrayed, abandoned, depressed, worried, stressed or facing difficult situations or circumstances. Christ is faithful and true and he will heal, deliver and set you free!

And you did so beautifully. So many songs have such deep meaning that is applicable to our everyday life but we skim over the depth and just enjoy the catchy tune. You have captured that depth here.
