It’s that dreadful day in America where we are reminded about the planes crashing into the twin towers. This was a wound directly to our hearts like we haven’t seen since Pearl Harbor. I want to thank the service men and women of New York City for their bravery and honor on that day. As the most powerful country on the planet, you would think that we would be able to avoid these types of major events. We obviously can’t change the minds of radical Islamic terrorists, but we don’t have to for us to be safe. It’s not our fault they seek to destroy us, however there are policies we have in place that give terrorism an opening to pour into our country. Let’s look at the various ways this is possible and how to stop it.
It is alarming that in this particular incident the hijackers came into the US legally on visas. This calls for a complete overhaul of the eligibility for this program. There is a need for “extreme vetting” as Donald Trump put it. I’ll note that he and I both agree that we don’t need to ban all Muslims from entering the country, but we must know the details of their ideology and purpose for coming into our country. Limiting the temporary moratorium to countries wrought with terrorism is appropriate nonetheless. This is really only something being discussed significantly by republicans and given the state of the political electorate leaning Left, I fear that this issue may not be solved and we will continue to provide an opening for terrorism to flourish. As if the 9/11 tragedy wasn’t enough, the same mistakes were made in many other cases such as the San Bernardino shooters, who were allowed entry into the country by visa. The oversight and scrutiny that is necessary to insure that all immigrants and visitors of this country are not radicals Islamic terrorists does not stem from xenophobia or racial profiling. It is an essential part of our national security.
What is more prevalent of an issue today compared to a decade ago is our refugee policy. The vetting procedure is inadequate given the cases of terrorism we have seen all throughout Europe and North America. The argument of the Left on this issue is, “Well the vetting system is great, but no system can be perfect. We must set aside our fears and help these people.” This is a system that can and must be perfect if we are to allow people in. President Obama has admitted nearly 10,000 refugees from Syria since the crisis started. The majority of these people are truly seeking asylum but it doesn’t even take 1% of those refugees to be radical for our country to have serious terrorist attacks occur. On top of that, Hillary Clinton wants over an additional 100,000 or more refugees to be admitted into the country if she is elected president. That increases the threat exponentially and there will be blood on her hands. I guarantee it. An alternative that apparently the Left doesn’t believe exists or isn’t affordable is the creation of safe zones. They are very affordable when you think about it in detail. There is a larger upfront cost to a safe zone but compared to the long term costs of resettlement, it is dramatically cheaper. 91% of Muslim refugees we take in are on food stamps and 73% are receiving free healthcare. Under democratic leadership, they will not be asked to leave when it is time and thus become citizens for free. They would be leeching on our economy that is on track to its breaking point. We want to help these people, but not at the expense of the American people.
I acknowledge that the majority of Muslims are peaceful. That doesn’t mean I turn a blind eye to those that are not. Radical Islamic terrorism is a cancer to the world. It has festered with the formation of new groups such as ISIS and others. It has metastasized through its recruitment and attacks across the western world. Our leaders must take every measure possible to protect us while we make judgments on how to help refugees in a proper way. That protection should culminate with the utter destruction of these barbaric people.
